In between my junior and senior years of college, I took a summer job working as a foreman of a small roofing crew. We would spend weeks out of state, repairing roofs around the northwest that were damaged while under warranty. I appreciated the scenery, the $30 per diem food allowance, and a waitress I met in Sequim, WA, named “Mrs. K.” I still remember the long drive home after being away for weeks at a time, especially the final one at the end of the summer. The summer work experience had given my mind some time to rest, while providing me some helpful skills and needed income. But I knew God’s plans for me were in another direction, and that summer was simply a pause in the middle of a larger story. That fall, I was even more excited and focused to invest in His still-forming plan for my life.
Yesterday we welcomed hundreds of families on our campus for Back To School Orientation Night. Thank you for coming! It was great to see you and your children. The summer campus hibernation is over! Our sports programs are off and running, classroom supplies have arrived, and teachers are ready. Our halls and classrooms are designed for joy, laughter, learning, and most importantly, discipleship training! Paul describes discipleship training both as a field and a building (I Cor. 3). As you hand off your children to us, we are eager to plant and water God’s truth into their hearts, minds, and souls. And God, our Master Gardener, gives the growth! Jesus Christ is the foundation for our students’ lives, and we seek to build upon this foundation with gold, silver, and precious stones. We all work in God’s field and His building, knowing that God has prepared rooms for us in eternity and Jesus is coming back to take us home. Until then, we pray that Crosshill feels like home as we settle into another school year as God continues His story toward building and growth in the lives of His children. |
